Pragati Group is a business house based in Nepal with diverse interests. It was started in 1990 by Late Shri Bhagwan Das Lohia, by setting up of a textile manufacturing unit in Eastern Nepal. Mr Bhagwan Das Lohia was one of the pioneering industrialists in Nepal, when there were hardly any industries in the country he founded and ran Mahasakti Soap & Chemical Industries in 1976. This was the first industry of its type in Nepal at that time.
While many textile units in Eastern Nepal have closed down in the last decade, Pragati has continued to grow to become one of the largest textile units in the country. The textile market in Nepal is growing at a rate of more than 20% per annum. Pragati’s growth has also been good over the last few years.
From textile manufacturing which is still the main manufacturing activity of the group it has diversified into the import of consumer goods and kitchen equipment’s for restaurants and hotels. It now represents more than 15 global companies for distribution of their products into Nepal. The group is now headed by Mr. Lalit Kumar Lohia who is the Chairman. He is assisted by Mr. Jitendra Kumar Lohia as the Managing Director, Sunil Kumar Lohia, Madhu Lohia and Deepak Kumar Lohia as Directors.

M/S Pragati Textile Industries was set up as a Private Limited Company in the company registrar office way back in 2048 The registered capital of the Company at the moment is Rs. 160.397 million and the paid up capital is Rs. 52.10 million.
Pragati has been very proactive in introducing new products as per market needs such as knitted fabrics, worsted fabrics etc.
The factory is situated in Khanar – Growing Industrial Corridor of Nepal. The main objectives of this company are to manufacture and sale of fabrics and provide processing services. It produces varieties of clothes viz. plain, dyed, knitted fancy shirting and suiting, etc. The company also performs the cloth processing job work for other textile weaving industries in Nepal.
The expansion plan of the company will help it to lower overhead costs on per meter basis, use the excess capacity of the dying house, which will result in a reduction of dying costs for the full production. Sales are not a problem as at present it is running at full capacity with 100% sales and extra demand. Total sales of the company are approx. 300 million rupees and growing at 20-25% per annum. With the expansion plans we see this going up to 425-450 Million rupees this year.
The installed capacity of the company for various products is as follows:
- Weaving of fabric: 30,00,000 Mtrs per annum.
- Dying: 72,00,000 Mtrs per annum.
- Knitting: 240,000 Kg per annum.
